Blythe Knight, winner of more than £400,000 in prize money, has run his last race after being granted “honourable retirement.”
The nine-year-old, trained by John Quinn won successive running’s of the Group 3 Diomed stakes at the Epsom Derby meeting in both 2007 and 2008 and, as well as being a high-quality hurdler, winning a Grade 3 race at Aintree, he also landed the 2006 Lincoln.
Winning 10 of his 75 races, Blythe Knight’s final success came at Chester last season in the listed ‘City Plate Stakes.’
Trainer Quinn stated, “The time is right for him to finish, his legs are fine, but he’s got a few niggles and earlier this season after he pulled a muscle, it took him six weeks to come right, which was a sure sign that age is beginning to catch up with him.”
Blythe Knight will now enjoy his retirement where he has trained over the past 4 years at Quinn’s Stables in Malton, Yorkshire.
Maxilead would like to thank everyone who has supported our racehorse, Blythe Knight, we will struggle to find another one as good as him.
