Maxilead Metals and Trainer John Quinn unleashed two very nice racing prospects on Saturday at Wetherby, in the shape of Moonlight Drive and Distime.
Moonlight Drive, a recruit from the Irish Point to Point scene won on his racecourse debut, at a price of 9-2. Winning by 6 lengths, he is now to go straight to the Cheltenham Festival, for The Albert Bartlett Hurdle.
John Quinn said, “He’s a proper horse. We’d had several trips to Ireland and saw him ourselves and Peter (Clay, owner) wanted a horse for the big meetings. He’s got an entry in the Albert Bartlett and as long as it isn’t fast ground he’ll run, and he won’t run beforehand. He’ll also be entered for Aintree.”
Distime also a winner on Saturday, completed the second leg in our memorable double. Bought from Ireland at the end of last year, Distime was sent off as favorite on his second racecourse start. He went on to win by 1 length in the Bumper race. He will now be aimed at either the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham or be kept for the National Meeting at Aintree.
Maxilead gets the Double!!
Both horses were given great rides by the Maxilead sponsored Dougie Costello, who rode a brilliant treble on Saturday and it’s also a great training effort by John Quinn and everyone at his stables in Malton.
All around it was a great day and one that we will never forget. Look out for both horses in the near future as they are sure to continue their rise to the top!!
