On Saturday 17th September, a bronze statue of Leigh Centurions rugby legend John Woods was unveiled at the Leigh Sports Village stadium.
John Woods is a rugby veteran in Leigh and beyond. The people of Leigh have a huge amount of respect for him, so it’s little wonder that the unveiling was a huge success, with fans from all over the county showing up for the event.
The ceremony took place before Leigh Centurions played the Batley Bulldogs, and John himself, along with his family, were there to watch the statue be revealed to the public.
Here at Maxilead Metals, we’re huge fans of John and the Leigh Centurions. That’s why we donated the bronze that was used to create the statue, which is a quarter bigger than lifesize.
We’re thrilled to have had a huge involvement with this exciting project, which has honoured such an iconic sports player. Aside from the unveiling, we can’t wait to see what the future successes are in store for the Leigh Centurions.
Local businesses, Centurions fans and councillors all helped to raise the £30,000 that was needed to build the statue, and the project has been backed the entire way by Wigan Council.
